Chester confident of overcoming Portugal

Wales defender James Chester is confident his team have what it takes to beat Portugal to move into the final of the European Championships.

Chris Coleman’s team reached the final four of a major tournament for the first time in their history after they recorded a 3-1 win over Belgium on Friday night.

Their reward is a clash with Portugal in Lyon on Wednesday and a victory will see them advance to the final in Paris on Sunday July 10.

However, Coleman will be without midfielder Aaron Ramsey and defender Ben Davies due to suspension. Davies has formed a solid partnership with Chester and captain Ashley Williams but West Ham’s James Collins is likely to come into the side.

Portugal have reached the final four without a winning a game in 90 minutes and Chester believes the other members of the squad will play their part. Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash, he told ITV.com: “They’ve started every game for us so far and will obviously be a big miss.

“We have players to come in who have played at the top level, so hopefully it won’t hamper us too much. “I don’t see any reason why we can’t (beat them). They’ve had to go to extra time twice, that’s of benefit to us. If we play like we did against Belgium, and like we did against Russia, we’ll be a match for anyone.”

Portgual are the 2.15 favourites for the clash, with the draw priced at 3.00 while Wales are available at odds of 4.00 with Dafabet.
